In the ever-evolving world of fashion, the only constant is change. As an award-winning personal stylist, I believe that true transformation begins when we dare to step beyond the familiar boundaries of our comfort zones. When we embrace discomfort, we unlock a realm of possibilities that can redefine our lives, our confidence, and our style.

The Power of Discomfort

Pushing ourselves beyond what feels safe and comfortable can be daunting. Many of us tend to cling to routines or styles that feel secure, resisting opportunities for growth. However, every time we challenge ourselves, be it in our fashion choices or life decisions, we learn something new about ourselves. This journey into the unknown fosters resilience and creativity, enabling us to approach life and style with a fresh perspective.

My Experience: A Flight Over Somerset

Allow me to share a personal journey that profoundly reinforced this lesson for me. Recently, I had the extraordinary opportunity to take a micro light aircraft flight over the stunning landscapes of Somerset. As someone who has always enjoyed the beauty of the earth from solid ground, the thought of soaring thousands of feet above, surrounded by endless sky, was both exhilarating and intimidating.

Climbing into that small aircraft, I felt a rush of nerves. However, as we took off and ascended into the open air, a magical transformation occurred. The rolling hills, verdant fields, and historic architecture of Somerset stretched below in a patchwork of stunning greens and golds. The perspective was breathtaking and unlike anything I had ever experienced. In that moment, I realised that stepping outside my comfort zone had unlocked a new level of appreciation—not just for the beauty of the landscape, but for the beauty that exists within vulnerability.

Fashion: The Sky is the Limit

This experience was a vivid metaphor for life and style. Just as I embraced a new perspective while flying, we can also embrace new styles and trends in fashion that challenge our preconceptions. Here are some benefits of stepping out of your styling comfort zone:

1. Enhanced Creativity: Trying new styles encourages you to think outside the box. It allows you to mix patterns, colors, and textures that you might not have previously considered.

2. Increased Confidence: Each time you wear something bold and different, your confidence grows. You become more self-assured in expressing who you are through your attire, creating a positive feedback loop that enhances your personal and professional life.

3. Authenticity: Exploring new styles can help you discover facets of your identity that you may not have known existed. This authentic connection to your wardrobe can lead to deeper self-acceptance and freedom.

4. Connection with Others: Fashion is often a conversation starter. When you push your boundaries and showcase your unique style, you can connect with like-minded individuals who appreciate your courage and creativity.

5. Memorable Experiences: Much like my flight over Somerset that opened my eyes to a fantastically beautiful world, venturing into new stylistic choices can lead to unforgettable experiences. You might receive compliments, spark interesting discussions, or even inspire others to step out of their comfort zones.

Conclusion: Fashion as a Journey

As I reflect on my own journey—both in style and beyond—it becomes evident that the liberation found on the other side of discomfort is incomparable. Allow yourself the grace to explore new territories, be it through your clothing, experiences, or even the way you interact with the world.

Just as I learned to embrace a birds-eye view of Somerset, challenge yourself to view style from a new lens. Step boldly beyond your comfort zone, and you will discover that you not only emerge a more confident individual, but you also unlock styles and experiences that you never thought possible. Embrace the journey, and let your style reflect the thrilling adventure that is your life.

I look pretty happy in this photograph don't I? Take away the sunny day, blue doors, yellow bag and shoes...oh, and my red lippy (and nails) and it wouldn't be so colourful and I may not be throwing my head back and laughing so much! lol! But I had everything to be happy for... it was a bright, sunny day, I had just started my own business and this was my first photo shoot with the very talented Aisling Magill of @aislingmagillphotography. This particular photo was one of the last to be taken that day and I can't for the life of me remember what made me laugh so hard?! Anyway, I digress! The reason I chose this pic for my first ever blog was because it showed how happy I was and how powerful a pop of colour can be!

Having my "colours done" changed the way I dressed (very neutral in black, navy, beige....you get the picture??!) and gave me the confidence of how to wear colour. I would go as far to say that it changed my life! It injected fun, laughter and confidence in my day to day dressing all in one go! One of the best things I have ever done!

Now, just because I have a lot of beautiful colours in my colour wallet, it doesn't mean that I wear them all at once so that I am a walking kaleidoscope every day!! Yikes!! That wouldn't suit my style personality at all because I am more of a classic girl (more on that later!). I choose to wear the colours I am drawn to....I get a feeling of what I need for that particular day.

You may have noticed that I said it "put confidence in my every day dressing", as I see so many people save colour for going on their summer holiday or for a special occasion like a wedding...such a waste!! Colour should be worn every day, don't save it for something special!! It has the power to lift you if you're feeling a bit blue, it can excite you, it can empower you, it can help you look more radiant (and younger!)...the list of positivity goes on and on! I always liken seeing someone in colour as a rainbow after a grey rainy day, it's wonderfully uplifting and always makes me smile! How do you feel when you see a rainbow?

So, if you need to inject a bit of colour confidence to your every day wardrobe please do drop me a message and I will get you booked in for a Colour Consultation so you can rock back out of lockdown feeling positively radiant!
